PETALING JAYA (June 4): Media Prima Bhd is likely to conduct “its second retrenchment exercise which could affect some 300 staff members”, reported FMT yesterday.

Media Prima is the parent company to the New Straits Times Press (NSTP) group and four television channels.

The report stated that the last day of the staff “who may include editorial staff” involved will be on Aug 31.

“The salary for August will be paid alongside the compensation, which is based on the years of service with the company,” a source told the news portal.

The source also added that while another round of retrenchments was expected, “they did not expect it to be this soon”.

“A lot of us did not see this coming. We thought after the first one, the company would be able to pick itself up again, but it wasn’t so.”

Back in November last year, Media Prima “announced” job cuts impacting thousands of employees, saying it “was part of a restructuring exercise” to be completed by 1Q2020”.
