KUALA LUMPUR (June 9): Sime Darby Bhd has appointed its non-independent and non-executive director Tan Sri Samsudin Osman (pictured) as its interim acting chairman, effective tomorrow.

The appointment follows the resignation of Sime Darby chairman Datuk Abdul Rahman Ahmad, as he has been appointed the group chief executive officer (CEO) and executive director of CIMB Group Holdings Bhd and CIMB Bank Bhd, Sime Darby said in a statement today.

Samsudin, 73, has been a member of the Sime Darby board since Dec 19, 2008. He was previously the chairman of the Employees Provident Fund (EPF) board from February 2007 to March 2020, and prior to that he was the chief secretary to the government from 2001 to 2006.

“The board of directors and the management team of Sime Darby Bhd would like to express our utmost thanks and gratitude to Datuk Abdul Rahman for his leadership and guidance during his tenure with the group.

“We wish him all the best in his future undertakings. We would also like to thank Tan Sri Samsudin for agreeing to take on the role of the interim acting chairman until a new chairman is appointed,” Sime Darby group CEO Datuk Jeffri Salim Davidson said.

Shares in Sime Darby ended two sen or 0.91% higher at RM2.21 today, giving the group a market capitalisation of RM15.03 billion.
