MoH detects new cluster at old folks' home in Kuala Selangor with three confirmed infections

KUALA LUMPUR (June 15): The Ministry of Health (MoH) has detected a new cluster of old folks' home in Kuala Selangor after three positive cases were detected, said Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah in a statement today.

Two positive cases were detected on May 17 through screenings at the home involving 12 staff and 26 residents.

All staff and other 24 residents tested negative for the virus, he added.

A month later, a third tested positive for the virus through Severe Acute Respiratory Illness screening when the patient was admitted to Tanjung Karang Hospital on June 13.

Noor Hisham said it was the second test for the patient as the patient tested negative during the first test.

He added that active case detection and other preventive measures have been taken including disinfection and decontamination.

According to data given by the ministry, 17,699 residents and staff in 421 old folks' homes across the country have undergone screenings, where 15,848 samples (89.5% of all residents, caretakers and staff) have been taken.

Thirty residents of old folks' homes have tested positive for the virus nationwide, where five people are symptomatic while 25 are asymptomatic.

Malaysia recorded 41 new cases today, bringing the tally of infections in the country to 8,494.

No new deaths were recorded, thus maintaining the death toll in the country at 121.
