Top management expats allowed to enter Malaysia from Wednesday

KUALA LUMPUR (June 20): Expatriates in the Employment Pass 1 (EP1) category are now allowed to enter Malaysia beginning Wednesday (June 24), said Immigration director-general Datuk Khairul Dzaimee Daud.

He said individuals in the EP1 category such as managing director of a company would be allowed to enter the country automatically without prior approval from the Immigration Department.

“Upon their arrival here, the Immigration Department will review their expatriate passes before they are allowed to enter.

“Also, these expatriates from the EP1 category have to download the MySejahtera application and to undergo Covid-19 swab test,” he told Bernama today.

Khairul Dzaimee said this in response to the government's decision to allow expatriates of the EP1, Professional Visit Pass and Resident Talent Pass Holder categories to enter Malaysia.

In the meantime, he said, local students who wanted to go abroad for the purpose of pursuing their studies were also allowed to do so without seeking the Immigration Department’s prior approval from Wednesday onwards.

“Students only need to submit supporting documents when turning up at the Immigration Department counter,” he said.

Khairul Dzaimee said he would continue to monitor the influx of foreigners at the country’s main entry points to prevent entries of illegal immigrants especially when the country was still fighting the Covid-19 pandemic.

Yesterday, Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the government has now allowed foreign nationals involved in top management to return to Malaysia without having to seek the permission from the Immigration Department.

However, Ismail Sabri said, they had to undergo the Covid-19 screening test in their home country before leaving for Malaysia or the screening could be conducted on their arrival here.
