KUALA LUMPUR (July 6): The High Court has allowed an application for summary judgment by the Inland Revenue Board (IRB) in its lawsuit against former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s son, Datuk Mohd Nazifuddin.

The court ordered him to make payment of the RM37.6 million in unpaid taxes sought by the IRB, pending his appeal against the amount.

In allowing the application, Justice Datuk Ahmad Zaidi Ibrahim ruled that Mohd Nazifuddin had failed to show just cause.

A summary judgment is a judgment that is entered by court without a full trial in which witnesses testify.

The IRB via the government filed the writ of summons against Mohd Nazifuddin on July 24 last year, claiming that he still had unpaid taxes totalling RM37.6 million to settle for the years 2011 to 2017 as stated in the assessment notice dated March 15, 2019.
