KUALA LUMPUR (July 6): Tasek Gelugor Member of Parliament (MP) Datuk Shabudin Yahaya (pictured) has been made a deputy minister in the Prime Minister's Department, in charge of Parliament and law.

He replaces Kuala Pilah MP Datuk Eddin Syazlee Shith, who has taken over the role of the deputy minister of works, following the resignation of Datuk Dr Shahruddin Md Salleh, according to a statement from the Prime Minister's Office (PMO).

"In line with Clause (1), Article 43A of the Federal Constitution, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong has consented to the appointment of Shabudin as a deputy federal minister," the PMO said in a statement today.

Shabudin — formerly with Umno before he joined Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia — will take his oath of office before the Yang di-Pertuan Agong today.

The current de facto law and Parliament minister is Kota Baru MP Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan from PAS.

It was previously reported that Shaharuddin resigned as the deputy minister of works on June 4 after citing "inaccurate political analysis (ijtihad politik) by joining the Perikatan Nasional government".

In a media statement, the Sri Gading MP said he reached the decision after "careful consideration", and that he wished to undo his mistake of leaving Pakatan Harapan.
