'I saw two bags of cash delivered to Rosmah's residence' — witness

KUALA LUMPUR (July 15): Jepak Holdings Sdn Bhd consultant Rayyan Radzwill Abdullah (pictured) confirmed in court today that he witnessed two black bags of cash purportedly containing RM1.5 million being delivered to Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor’s Langgak Duta residence in 2017.

Rayyan said he was present at Rosmah’s house together with Jepak managing director Saidi Abang Samsudin on Sept 7, 2017 when the bags were delivered.

“Datuk Rizal Mansor (Rosmah’s aide) brought us to a living area with a green sofa. Shortly after, I saw Saidi’s driver Shamsul enter the house carrying two black bags with orange stripes and placed them at the side of the sofa,” he testified in Rosmah’s graft trial in the High Court.

Rayyan said he did not know the exact content of the bags, but was told by Saidi that they contained cash and the total amount was RM1.5 million.

“Datin Seri Rosmah did not look surprised [when she saw the bags of money], and I understood that the money given by Saidi was a token of appreciation for the award of a solar hybrid project to Jepak,” said Rayyan.

According to Rayyan, Saidi explained to Rosmah that he would give a small amount of cash first and provide the remaining amount later based on progressive payments made for the solar hybrid project, to which she replied “okaylah”.

Rosmah earlier received RM5 million in December 2016 through Rizal, the witness said, adding that the amount was given by Saidi to thank her for her contribution in helping Jepak receive the letter of award for the solar hybrid project.

Rayyan, together with Saidi, were partners in Jepak which pitched a project to the Ministry of Education in 2015 to provide solar hybrid systems to 369 schools in Sarawak. 

To assist them in securing the project fast, they requested for the help of Rosmah who in return asked for a political donation to be made to her husband, former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

Yesterday, Rayyan testified that Rizal had asked for a 15% “contribution” from Jepak on behalf of Rosmah for helping the company to secure the RM1.25 billion project.

Rosmah is facing charges of soliciting RM187.5 million from Jepak between January and April 2016, and allegedly receiving RM5 million and RM1.5 million in 2016 and 2017.

Rayyan is the 16th prosecution witness in the trial which entered its 17th day today.
