KUALA LUMPUR (July 16): Sime Darby Bhd has appointed its non-independent non-executive director Tan Sri Samsudin Osman (pictured) as chairman, effective immediately.

In a statement today, the conglomerate said this follows his previous appointment as the group’s acting chairman in June 2020.

Samsudin is Permodalan Nasional Bhd’s nominee director.

The 73-year-old has served Sime Darby as a member of the board since December 2008.

He was the chief secretary to the Malaysian government from 2001 to 2006 and chairman of the Employees Provident Fund Board for 13 years, until his retirement earlier this year.

At the midday break, Sime Darby shed 0.94% or 2 sen to RM2.12, valuing it at RM14.42 billion.
