KUALA LUMPUR (July 16): A new Covid-19 cluster has been detected in Mambong, Sarawak with two positive cases originating from a company located there, the Ministry of Health said today.

Its director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the cluster was found when the second case was confirmed during a screening at the workplace.

“The patient [second case] had close contact with the index case of this cluster (patient No 8732),” Noor Hisham said in his Covid-19 media briefing today.

“The index case displayed symptoms on July 12 and tested positive on July 14 in a medical centre.

“However, the source of the infection is still under investigation,” he added.

Noor Hisham said 70 individuals had been identified and screened through investigation and contact tracing activities.

The two cases involved a Malaysian and one foreigner, while another 68 individuals in the cluster are awaiting  results.

“Cleaning and disinfection processes have been conducted in the company,” said Noor Hisham.
