KUALA LUMPUR (July 23): The High Court has fixed Aug 11 for case management of an originating summons filed by former premier Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and four others against the Dewan Rakyat Speaker and his deputies, over the legality of their appointments to the posts.

The matter has been fixed before Justice Datuk Ahmad Kamal Md Shahidon that day.

According to a statement from Messrs Law Practice of Rafique, all the necessary sealed court documents were also served to the Speaker's office yesterday.

It was reported that Dr Mahathir, along with his son and former Kedah menteri besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir, former education minister Dr Maszlee Malik, Kubang Pasu member of Parliament (MP) Datuk Amiruddin Hamzah and Sri Gading MP Datuk Shaharuddin Md Salleh yesterday filed the suit.

They named Speaker Datuk Azhar Azizan Harun, his deputies Datuk Azalina Othman Said and Datuk Mohd Rashid Hasnon as well as Dewan Rakyat secretary Nizam Mydin Bacha Mydin as defendants in the suit.

The five former Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia members claimed the appointments of Azhar and Azalina were unconstitutional and illegal. Hence, they want the two posts to be nullified.
