KUALA LUMPUR (July 25): Housing and Local Government Minister Zuraida Kamaruddin (pictured) will accept whatever decision made by the ruling Perikatan Nasional (PN) administration on reintroducing local council elections, FMT reported today.
“I will concede if the government is against holding them (local elections).
“I’ll concede but in future, there may be a need for it,” she told the media at a function in Ampang today.
The news portal reported that the minister’s “push for the reintroduction of local council elections has come under fire from Umno, PAS and Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) MPs”.
She added that she “welcomed all views” on the subject and that “I can’t stop them from saying what they want”.
Some PN MPs have rejected local council elections idea, with Noh Omar (Tanjong Karang) saying that the concept was a “Pakatan Harapan (PH) idea”.
