PETALING JAYA (Aug 21): Numerous monkeys have been “wreaking havoc” at N’Dira Residences in Puchong, reported The Star yesterday.

Resident Justin Chin, 30, said “besides rummaging through rubbish bins and sometimes entering houses to look for food”, the long-tailed macaques had also been “damaging the side mirror of cars”.

According to the report, the primates used to “live in a forested area next to the neighbourhood”, but since last month, they have “started entering their (the residents’) compound and behaving aggressively”.

“Before last month, they rarely entered the housing area, which opened for occupancy two years ago.

“The monkeys often create a mess by going through the rubbish and have entered a few houses and damaged many cars.

“The residents are afraid of leaving their doors and windows open,” Chin told the daily.

Meanwhile, Selangor Perhilitan director Haidar Khan Mokbolhassan said they have plans to capture and relocated the monkeys “to another forested area”

“More traps were set recently to increase our chances of catching the troop as we had only caught one so far.

“We will be setting bigger traps soon, too,” he explained.
