KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 1): Former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB)-Tanore trial will resume this afternoon after a two-week hiatus.

1MDB's former CEO Datuk Shahrol Azral Ibrahim Halmi, who has been a witness in the trial since last year, is coming to the tail end of his cross-examination today by Najib’s defence team, led by Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah.

The trial was last held on Aug 17, 2020. It was reported on that day that Najib’s 1MDB-Tanore trial at the High Court here was allowed to end early as he had to attend to parliamentary debates and voting.

It was reported that the trial will continue today.

In the 1MDB-Tanore trial, Najib is facing four counts of abuse of power for using his position as prime minister, finance minister and 1MDB board of advisers chairman to receive gratification worth RM2.28 billion.

It was reported that Najib also faces 21 counts of money laundering involving over RM4.3 billion.
