KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 1): Malaysia reported today one Covid-19-related death and 14 new cases related to the pandemic as at 5pm, according to the latest updates on the Ministry of Health's (MOH) website.

The MOH said the cumulative number of Covid-19-related deaths stood at 128 so far while cumulative cases related to the pandemic rose to 9,354 individuals.

Out of the 14 new cases, five were imported while nine involved local transmissions, according to the MOH.

Meanwhile, health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said in a separate statement that the five imported cases involve foreigners.

Two individuals were infected in the Philippines, while one each were infected in Indonesia, Pakistan and Ukraine, he said.

Noor Hisham said the two individuals who were infected in the Philippines were identified in Sabah while the remaining three cases were reported in Selangor.

Out of the nine locally transmitted cases, five were Malaysians while four were foreigners.

Noor Hisham said that out of the five Malaysians, two were detected in Kedah, one each from the Tawar and Telaga clusters while three were identified in Sabah.

The three cases in Sabah included an individual from the newly identified Benteng LD cluster in Lahad Datu, he said.

"The local transmissions involving the four foreigners are also from the Benteng LD cluster in Sabah," he said.

The latest Covid-19-related death involved an 80-year-old woman who had lung cancer and high blood pressure.

Noor Hisham said the deceased died at 10:38am today.

"The deceased was one of the positive [Covid-19] cases reported on Aug 15, 2020 within the Tawar cluster," Noor Hisham said.
