MOH reports slightly lower new Covid-19 infections with 47 cases

KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 13): The Ministry of Health (MOH) reported 47 new Covid-19 infections in Malaysia today — slightly lower than the 58 new cases recorded yesterday, bringing the total cumulative cases to 9,915.

Of the 47 new cases, two were imported cases and the other 45 were local transmitted infections. Thirty-one cases were recorded in Sabah, whereby 22 cases were from the Benteng Lahad Datu (LD) cluster. Meanwhile, 13 new cases were recorded from the Tawar cluster in Kedah.

On recoveries, seven more Covid-19 patients were discharged, lifting the number of cured cases in the country to 9,196 or 92.75% of total cases.

As such, the total number of Covid-19 active cases currently stands at 591.

Nine Covid-19 patients are currently being treated in intensive care units, with four requiring breathing ventilators.

No new Covid-19 deaths were reported today — marking the 12th day with the death toll maintained at 128.

MOH director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah updated that 4,666 individuals had been screened related to the Benteng LD cluster, of which 403 were detected positive involving 176 Malaysians and 227 non-citizens. Two cases were detected among front liners.

Besides the Benteng LD cluster, the Tawar cluster and the Sungai cluster have also infected front liners including healthcare workers — six cases in the Tawar cluster and 20 cases in the Sungai cluster.

"All front-line staff should learn from this incident. While on duty, all front-line personnel must always adhere to the guidelines and procedures that have been set," Noor Hisham said.

"While outside of working hours, front-line personnel must comply with the standard operating procedures set by the government. In addition, continue to practise new habits and norms in curbing the spread of Covid-19 infection," he added.
