KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 19): A total of 93 individuals were detained for defying the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) yesterday, of which 85 were issued compounds while eight others were remanded.
Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob (pictured) said among the offences were for not wearing face masks (33 people), failure to practise physical distancing (32) and indulging in pub and night club activities (14).
“Other offences include premises operating beyond permitted hours (seven), failure to provide entry registration tools (six) while one more failed to provide a permission letter to enter/leave the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) area,” he said in a statement on RMCO developments today.
On fake news relating to COVID-19, he said as of yesterday, 268 investigation papers had been opened by the police and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission.
From the total, 131 were still being investigated, 35 charged in court, 12 were issued with a warning notice, 16 in trial while 19 more pleaded guilty.
“At the same time, 370 denials and explanations were issued to the public by the Communications and Multimedia Ministry’s Quick Response Team which was established to help curb the spread of fake news on COVID-19,” he said.
On Ops Benteng, Ismail Sabri said 65 immigrants, three skippers and one smuggler were nabbed when trying to enter the country, and 14 land vehicles seized.
He said 82 roadblocks were mounted involving personnel from the police, Malaysian Border Control Agency and the Armed Forces.
Meanwhile, from July 24 until yesterday, a total of 30,717 individuals have returned to Malaysia and were placed in 70 hotels and eight other premises including the Public Training Institutions and private higher education institutions.
Of the total, 9,753 individuals were undergoing compulsory quarantine, while 71 individuals sent to hospitals for treatment and 20,893 allowed to return home.
