LONDON (Nov 1): The United Kingdom prime minister Boris Johnson has announced a second national lockdown for England to curb the spread of the Covid-19, according to a BBC report.

The decision came after the UK has recorded over one million Covid-19 cases.

The month-long shutdown will see restaurants, gyms and pubs, as well as the non-essential businesses will be closed for four weeks from next Thursday, but takeaways from restaurants are allowed. Schools, colleges and universities remain open.

People are being told to stay at home unless they have specific reasons to leave. Meanwhile, construction sites and manufacturing workplaces remain open.

The second lockdown remains in place until Dec 2, 2020, Johnson hopes by then the situation will be under control.

"Christmas is going to be different this year, perhaps very different, but it's my sincere hope and belief that by taking tough action now we can allow families across the country to be together," he said.
