Covid-19: Malaysia’s daily cases hit all-time high of 1,755 with 68.3% in Sabah, outpacing 726 recoveries

KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 6): Malaysia recorded 1,755 daily Covid-19 cases in the country, the highest since the pandemic hit the country in January.

Sabah continues to post the highest number of cases nationwide with 1,199 cases recorded, accounting for 68.3% of cases.

Penang comes in second with 192 cases, followed by Selangor with 169 cases.

Of the total new cases today, 1,752 were local infections, while the remaining three cases were imported cases.

The three imported cases involved two Malaysians and one foreigner who had arrived from Saudi Arabia, South Africa and Myanmar.

In a statement, Ministry of Health (Moh) director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the newest cases bring the total number of infections in the country to 38,189.

The new cases are more than double the 726 recoveries reported today. Including the latest batch of discharged patients, total recoveries rose to 26,380.

Two more deaths were also reported today, involving a 67-year-old woman from Sabah and a 54-year-old man from Kedah, who both had health problems.

Their passing brings total fatalities in the country to 279.

A total of 11,530 people are currently receiving treatment with 83 in intensive care, of whom 32 require respiratory assistance.

Noor Hisham also announced three new clusters today.

The Mampulut cluster in Sabah has 28 positive COVID-19 cases so far, while the Fores cluster which encompasses Petaling, Gombak and Klang in Selangor as well as Kepong in Selangor has 20 positive cases so far.

In the Fores cluster, 190 people have been tested and besides those found to be infected, 70 were negative while 100 are awaiting their results.

The third cluster is the the Rengas cluster in Kuala Kangsar, Perak which has nine Covid-19 positive cases so far. Meanwhile, 281 people linked to this cluster who were tested for the coronavirus are still awaiting their results.
