Rosmah’s graft trial deferred until Dec 11

KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 16): The scheduled continuation of Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor's corruption trial this week in the High Court here involving the RM1.25 billion project to supply solar hybrid energy to schools in Sarawak has been deferred until Dec 11, 2020 due to the conditional movement control order (CMCO) to curb the Covid-19 pandemic.

Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP) Ahmad Akram Gharib confirmed the deferral when contacted by theedgemarkets.com.

“Yes, the trial before [High Court Judge] Justice Mohamed Zaini Mazlan has been deferred until Dec 11,” Ahmad Akram said.

The trial has already entered its final stage with Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) investigating officer (IO) Noornabilah Mohd Azman being cross-examined by Rosmah's defence team led by Datuk Jagjit Singh and Datuk Akberdin Abdul Kader.

Besides the MACC IO, the defence also intends to query former education minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid further.

The prosecution in Rosmah’s trial is led by former Federal Court judge Datuk Seri Gopal Sri Ram.

According to news reports, Rosmah is accused of soliciting RM187.5 million and receiving a portion of the amount from Jepak Holdings Sdn Bhd managing director Saidi Abang Samsudin in exchange for helping the firm secure the solar hybrid energy project.

News reports, quoting the trial’s 16th prosecution witness Rayyan Radzwill Abdullah, indicated that Rayyan claims that Rosmah’s former aide Datuk Rizal Mansor made arrangements for Saidi and him (Rayyan) to meet Rosmah at her house in Jalan Langgak Duta here in 2016.
