KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 17): Tiffany & Co is selling a mahjong set at US$15,000 or about RM61,000.

And if the first thing you did was to try to convert the US$ into ringgits, you most probably should not be buying this set.

To be found under the ‘Everyday Objects’ category of the company’s website, there is definitely nothing “everyday” about this mahjong set compared to those used by the neighbourhood aunties.

According to the luxury jewellery brand’s website, the set includes 150 tiles and 120 scoring sticks comprised of three layers: an American walnut wood base, a Tiffany Blue, black and gray core and a white surface; four American walnut wood tile rests, each engraved with the Tiffany & Co logo; 80 coins in black, Tiffany Blue, gray and white; four sterling silver dice with Tiffany Blue enamelled dots; and four removable leather interior trays to store tiles.

Also included is an additional leather box with magnetic closure to store dice and scoring sticks, 14.8" long x 4.1" wide x 1.5" high.

“Elevated materials and luxurious details add a modern touch to any game night,” said Tiffany & Co in its description of the Mahjong set.

But if Mahjong is not your cup of tea, Tiffany & Co also has a chess set, poker set and a walnut tic-tac-toe that’s currently sold out.

This must be because the rich and famous are bored at home owing to the Covid-19 lockdowns in numerous countries.

However, reports say that this Tiffany & Co Mahjong set is not the first to hit the market.

In August, Hermes launched a leather mahjong set that will set you back S$57,200 (about RM175,000) in Singapore.
