MoH detects five new Covid-19 clusters today — two in Sabah — with 173 infections among them

KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 17): Five new Covid-19 clusters have been detected, according to the Ministry of Health today, with a total of 173 infections among them.

Two of these clusters are found in Sabah, namely the Avenue cluster in Penampang with 110 positive cases, and the Kejora cluster in Kota Kinabalu with nine cases.

The three remaining clusters are: the Kasah cluster involving Kepoh in Kuala Lumpur with 19 cases, the Summer cluster in Timur Laut Penang with 11 cases, and the Mengketil cluster — which spans Kota Bharu, Machang and Tanah Merah in Kelantan, as well as Besut in Terengganu — with 24 cases.

In a statement, Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said there are now 162 active clusters in the country, and about half or 72 of them are linked to the workplace.

The surge of Covid-19 cases linked to the workplace also contributed to the recent spike of cases in Klang Valley, he said. The Klang Valley, comprising Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya, recorded 518 cases today, surpassing Sabah's 499 cases.

Meanwhile, Dr Noor Hisham said five other Covid-19 clusters have ended today, as no new cases were reported in 28 days.

They are: the Bangau-bangau cluster involving Semporna and Tawau in Sabah; the Tasik cluster involving Petaling, Hulu Langat, Klang and Gombak in Selangor, as well as Miri in Sarawak; the Olive cluster which involves Hulu Langat in Selangor, and Penampang and Kota Marudu in Sabah; the Buang Sayang cluster involving Sipitang, Pitas, and Putatan in Sabah; the Titiwangsa in Kuala Lumpur and Seremban and Rembau in Negeri Sembilan, and the Kau Sing cluster in Tawau, Sabah.

Malaysia reported 1,210 new Covid-19 cases today, bringing the country's cumulative confirmed infections to 49,730.
