KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 7): Golden Screen Cinemas Sdn Bhd (GSC) will be reopening its cinemas on Dec 16 in nine locations where the conditional movement control order (CMCO) has been lifted.

GSC said in a tweet that the nine places are Aman Central in Alor Setar, Gurney Plaza in Georgetown, Sunway Carnival in Seberang Perai, Dataran Pahlawan and AEON Bandaraya in Melaka, East Coast Mall in Kuantan, Mentakab Star Mall and CityONE Megamall in Kuching, and Alamanda Putrajaya.

GSC, Malaysia's largest cinema operator and a wholly-owned subsidiary of PPB Group Bhd, said the reopening is subject to changes depending on the current situation.

The chain closed all its cinemas nationwide since the beginning of November following an announcement by the Malaysian Association of Film Exhibitors to collectively suspend all cinema operations in the country temporarily due to the implementation of the CMCO.

GSC posted a loss for the first half of the year due to the MCO and is expected to continue to be affected by the pandemic. Even after the cinemas reopened, they were operating at just half their capacities.
