Covid-19: Indonesia to roll out mass vaccination program on Jan 13

JAKARTA (Jan 5): Indonesia will start its Covid-19 mass vaccination program from Jan 13, President Joko Widodo will be receiving the first shot, reported Channel NewsAsia.

Its health minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin said the government is looking to vaccinate 181 million people out of its 270 million population to achieve herd immunity.

Indonesian government has previously said 1.3 million frontline workers are set to be among the first to receive the vaccines made by China's Sinovac Biotech.

The country has secured over 229 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines from pharmaceutical companies globally and has received three million doses from Sinovac.

Indonesia also negotiated an additional 50 million doses each from AstraZeneca and Pfizer.
