KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 9): A woman who came back to Sibu from Johor to attend her father’s funeral has been found to be linked to 37 Covid-19 infections in a longhouse in Pasai Siong, The Star reported today.

All 37 were “detected through the screening results of a case of a woman returning from Johor (Case 1,175) on Dec 29, 2020. Case 1,175 was announced by SDMC [State Disaster Management Committee ] on Jan 7 through a media statement," SDMC Sibu chairman Charles Siaw told the daily.

Described as a “superspreader”, the woman is receiving treatment at Sibu Hospital.

More screenings are being conducted including at the other seven longhouses in Pasai Siong today and Sunday.

Meanwhile, it was reported that the police have set up a roadblock at the entrance to Rumah Langi, Pasai Siong, since last night as all the eight longhouses use the same road junction to their respective longhouses.

Their residents are now locked down and "food and health facilities will be given”, Siaw said.

He also called on all those who attended the same funeral at Rumah Langi from Dec 29 to 31, to go for a Covid-19 screening at either Jalan Lanang Health Clinic or Sibu Jaya Health Clinic.
