Covid-19 hotline by residents’ association sparks information leakage concern

KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 23): The Covid-19 hotline set up by Taman Desa Residents’ Association (TDRA) without consulting local residents has raised the concerns of patients’ medical information being leaked to the public, reported the Malay Mail.

A letter from TDRA has been circulated to the community while a red bunting (pictured) has been put up urging infected residents to report to the hotline and TDRA will offer assistance to the infected patients.

However, residents in Taman Desa are concerned the hotline could lead to information leakage that could result in the naming and shaming of patients or suspected cases who are requested to quarantine at home.

One of the residents M. Selvam told Malay Mail that the association did not consult the residents about the matter.

“My question is whether the TDRA has been authorised by the Health Ministry or National Security Council (NSC) to do so.

“I can understand that the RA has the goal of bringing everyone together, but that involves feedback and community involvement rather than this,” he said.
