KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 25): Tan Sri Vincent Tan Chee Yioun, who owns Cardiff City Football Club, said the club’s newly appointed first-team manager Mick McCarthy is the right man to take on the responsibility of improving the club’s performances and fortunes, based on his wealth of managerial experience.
“I’ve enjoyed the brief talk I’ve had with Mick, and I’m confident that he’s the right man to take on the responsibility of improving our performances and fortunes,” Tan, who is also Berjaya Corp Bhd's executive chairman, said in a statement published on Cardiff City Football Club’s website last Friday (Jan 22).
According to the statement, McCarthy, who has been appointed Cardiff City Football Club’s first-team manager for the remainder of the 2020/21 season, will be joined by assistant manager Terry Connor, while James Rowberry and Andy Dibble will continue in their roles as the first-team coach and goalkeeping coach respectively.
"Mick has a wealth of managerial experience on the club and international stages.
"Captain of the Republic of Ireland in his playing days, Mick twice managed his national side, notably taking them to the knockout stage of the 2002 FIFA World Cup.
"At the club level, he clinched Championship titles with both Sunderland and Wolves, while also guided all four of his domestic sides to play-off campaigns," the statement said.
