Covid-19: Hotel Equatorial Penang closes down due to huge losses

PENANG (Jan 25): Hotel Equatorial Penang announced cease of operation from March 31 this year due to adverse business conditions caused by Covid-29.

In an internal notice to the employees today, the hotel said it was a very sad and difficult decision. The last day of business to the public has yet to be decided but it will be before March 31, 2021.

“Until we officially cease operations, all of you shall remain as employees of the Hotel and we remain committed to upkeep the strong heritage and name of Hotel Equatorial Penang.

Despite huge losses suffered by the company, the hotel will pay severance benefits, details of which will be announced at a later date,” said the notice.

Reigning at 250 feet above sea level, the 413-room Hotel Equatorial Penang in Bukit Jambul  is a 5-star convention resort within the city catering specially to business travellers on the island.
