Restricted movement still needed even though economy has reopened — PM

KUALA LUMPUR (March 1): Restricted movement measures are still needed even though economic activities have reopened, including international border control, interstate movement as well as restrictions on social and business activities where social distancing is not practicable, said Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

“The opening of such activities can only be done after the implementation of immunisation reaches a certain level of coverage in the community,” Muhyiddin said this morning at an event to commemorate the first year anniversary of the current Malaysian government.

To further assist the people in this ongoing difficult period against the backdrop of the Covid-19 pandemic, Muhyiddin said the government will formulate additional measures in the near future.

This includes providing targeted assistance to vulnerable groups, especially the poor as well as the disadvantaged; increase support for businesses, especially businesses that are still unable to operate or that are in the process of reopening after the movement control order (MCO); focusing on the public delivery system; and giving priority to the government’s digitalisation agenda in line with transforming the country into a knowledge-based economy.
