KUALA LUMPUR (March 4): The Ministry of Health (MoH) reported 2,063 new Covid-19 cases in the country today, bringing the total number of cases to 307,943. Five more deaths were also recorded, pushing the death toll to 1,153.
Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the new cases comprise 2,054 local cases and nine import cases, with Selangor topping the list with a total of 630 cases, followed by Pulau Pinang (337 cases), Sarawak (361 cases), Johor (255 cases) and Kuala Lumpur (120 cases).
As for the fatalities, they comprise three in Selangor and one each in Kuala Lumpur and Pahang.
The ministry also reported that 2,922 more patients have recovered, with total recoveries now at 283,629 or 92.1% of total. As recoveries surpassed new cases again, active cases were further trimmed to 23,161 from 24,025 previously.
Meanwhile, the ministry has identified 14 new clusters, bringing the total number of clusters to-date to 1,177, while 11 clusters were discontinued today.
The number of active clusters stood at 490, with 76 clusters reporting new cases.
Among the 14 new clusters, 12 clusters stemmed from workplaces, while the other two clusters were among high-risk individuals and community infection.
Selangor accounted for five of the new clusters, followed by Johor (six clusters), Pulau Pinang (two clusters) and Negeri Sembilan (one cluster).
In Selangor, 73 cases originated from four new clusters, namely the Jasmine Empat, Lagenda Suria, Jalan Bukit Tiga, Jalan Damansara and Industri Subang clusters, while 61 cases were from existing clusters. Meanwhile, 392 new cases in the state were detected through contact tracing.
Sarawak, which reported 361 cases, saw 84 cases from existing clusters, 111 cases from contact tracing and 166 cases from other forms of Covid-19 testing.
In Pulau Pinang, 274 cases emerged from clusters, including 177 cases from new clusters, namely the Queens Waterfront Construction Site and Jalan Bukit Nenas clusters.
