PETALING JAYA (March 9): Payment for street parking will be only via the Smart Selangor Parking mobile app effective from Jan 1,2022, Selangor local government, public transport and new village development committee chairman Ng Sze Han announced today.

Ng told The Star in a report that the main reason for this move is to “create convenience”.

“The Smart Selangor Parking mobile app introduced through Selangor government’s business arm Selangor Smart Delivery Unit (SSDU) in 2018 has seen a gradual acceptance among motorists.

“In 2018, there were 300,000 users while the following year it increased to 800,000 users. As of March this year, we have 1.5 million users who pay for the parking via their smartphones,” Ng revealed.

He said with the app motorists, will no longer have to search for a parking machine or buy scratch and display coupons.

Ng told the daily that the coupon will be accepted until the end of 2021 to allow people “to use up their scratch and display card”.

More motorists have embraced the Smart Selangor Parking app as it is easier to use and this has saved 634,994kg of paper needed to print coupons,” he added.

Ng also said that the state authorities had “taken into account” those without smart phones or the parking app.

“SSDU would have parking agents, who would help out senior citizens or people from out of the state, to execute the cashless payment on behalf using a mobile phone,” he assured.

Currently, 10 local councils in Selangor use the app except for Sabak Bernam and Hulu Selangor.
