KUALA LUMPUR (March 18): The Ministry of Health reported 1,213 new Covid-19 infections today, with three more deaths, raising cumulative coronavirus infections in the country to 328,466, with total deaths now at 1,223.

Active cases that carry high transmission risks dropped further to 14,782, as new daily Covid-19 recoveries — which came in at 1,503 — continue surpassing new infections, according to Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

Total recoveries have now reached 312,461 or 95.1% of overall infections.

Selangor led the number of new infections today with 353 cases, bringing cumulative cases in the state to 110,550. This is followed by Sarawak (303), Johor (142), and Penang (104), said Dr Noor Hisham in a statement.

As for the three deaths, they were reported from Sabah, Sarawak and Kelantan and involved Malaysians aged between 59 and 82. Two of them had health complications such as high blood pressure, heart disease, chronic kidney disease and gout.

Among the new infections, 1,207 were local transmissions while the remaining six were imported.

Nine new clusters identified

Nine more new infection clusters have been identified, said Dr Noor Hisham. Five are linked to workplaces, three to community infections while one is a detention-related cluster known as the Semuja Immigration Depot cluster.

The five workplace clusters are: Tapak Bina Persiaran Setia cluster in Petaling, Selangor (18 infections); Tapak Bina Persiaran Sunsuria cluster in Sepang, Selangor (11); Jalan Wawasan Sembilan cluster, which spans Batu Pahat and Kluang in Johor (50); Melamam cluster in Sipitang, Sabah (14); and Jalan Asuhan cluster in Kerian, Perak (12).

The three community infection clusters are: Sungai Atap cluster in Meradong, Sarawak (19); Kampung Padang Tembak cluster in Keningau, Sabah (21); and Bunga Tanjung Bendahara cluster involving Kota Setar and Kuala Muda in Kedah (10).

The country's total clusters now stand at 1,276, of which 848 have ended.
