KUALA LUMPUR (March 19): Malaysia Rail Link Sdn Bhd (MRL) and China Communications Construction (ECRL) Sdn Bhd (CCC-ECRL) have jointly launched the Safety Campaign 2021 which aims to achieve "making zero Lost Time Injury (LTI) accidents a reality" for the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) project.

MRL is the project and asset owner of the ECRL while CCC-ECRL is the engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning contractor.

In a joint statement today, the firms said the launch event was held at Maran, Pahang, on March 16 and officiated by MRL chief executive officer Datuk Sri Darwis Abdul Razak and CCC-ECRL managing director Bai Yinzhan.

Darwis said MRL and CCC-ECRL have continuously cultivated high safety standards and procedures among their personnel as workplace health and safety remain ECRL project’s number one priority.

“We have also embarked on strategies to help identify potential hazards and accidents from happening at our project sites, as we desire a safe and secure atmosphere in the construction of the ECRL alignment from Kota Bharu to Port Klang,” he said.

Bai said safety has always been a top priority.

“This safety campaign reiterates the importance of health and safety awareness and enforcement on all ongoing works on the ECRL project to ensure undeviating progress,” he said.

In February 2021, the ECRL project reported a 20.83% completion rate, slightly ahead of schedule backed by swift and safe construction works at 94 priority locations in Section B (Dungun – Mentakab).
