KUALA LUMPUR (March 21): The Ministry of Health (MoH) reported 1,327 new cases today, 20% lower than yesterday's 1,671. The new additions increased cumulative cases in the country to 333,040.

Four more deaths were also reported – one each in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Perak and Sarawak – pushing the death toll to 1,233, MoH director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said in a news briefing today. All four were Malaysians.

Today also marked the 16th consecutive day that the number of daily cases stayed below 2,000. Of the new additions, 1,316 were from local transmissions, while 11 were imported.

The number of active cases, meanwhile, increased to 14,518, from 14,442 yesterday, as new recoveries came in at 1,247, less than new cases. Total recoveries stood at  317,289  or 95.3% of overall cases.

By state, Selangor reported the highest number of new cases at 356, followed by Sarawak (276 cases), Pulau Pinang (205 cases), Johor (141 cases) and Kuala Lumpur (115 cases).

The ministry also said that between Jan 1, 2021, and March 21, 2021, there were a total of 3,170 cross-state transmissions. The top three states reporting cross-state infections were Kedah (714 cases), Perak (582 cases), and Negeri Sembilan (370 cases).

It said the number of cross-state cases have been increasing since the third wave started on Sept 20, 2020.

Five new clusters identified

Meanwhile, the ministry reported that five new infection clusters have been identified, two in Johor and one each in Penang, Selangor and Sabah.

They are: the Bukit Tambun Cluster in Penang; Jalan You City Construction Site Cluster in Selangor; the Jalan Permas Baru and Jalan Gemilang Tiga clusters in Johor; and the D Gana Cluster in Sabah.

The ministry also updated that 413,255 individuals have been vaccinated to date, with 402,650 having received their first dosage, while 10,605 got their second dose.
