MCO to be reviewed due to surge in Covid-19 cases, says Muhyiddin

KUALA LUMPUR (May 1): The ongoing movement control order (MCO) will be reviewed, especially in states experiencing a spike in positive Covid-19 cases, said Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

He said this is important to ensure that the standard operating procedures (SOPs) and actions taken are effective in curbing the spread of the virus, which has seen a surge in Malaysia and other countries.

He said the government had implemented the Hotspot Identification for Dynamic Engagement (HIDE) early warning system to identify areas or premises which are at risk of contributing to the spread of Covid-19.

“These premises will be ordered to be closed if they are detected to have been visited by a big number of positive Covid-19 cases. This approach is in line with the government’s decision to control and curb the spread of Covid-19 in a targeted manner.

“Through this system, monitoring is conducted daily to identify high-risk public locations which attract crowds. I appeal to the public to always observe the set SOPs and to avoid narrow and crowded places in order to protect themselves, their family and the community,” he said in a statement today.

New Covid-19 cases in Malaysia breached the 3,500 mark yesterday, with 3,788 infections reported.
