KUALA LUMPUR (May 10): The Ministry of Health (MoH) said 67% of public hospital beds were used to treat those infected by Covid-19, including suspected and probable patients, as of last Saturday (May 8).

According to data published by the ministry’s National Institutes of Health, it said 67% or 4,666 out of 7,288 beds at the government hospitals have been taken up, while 49% or 11,433 out of 23,141 beds at low-risk treatment and quarantine centres were occupied.

Moreover, 540 out of 1,283 beds in intensive care units were occupied by Covid-19 patients, while 356 beds were used by non-Covid-19 patients.

Out of 2,037 ventilators, 300 are being used by Covid-19 patients while 624 are being used by non-Covid-19 patients.

It is worth noting that the number of active cases, which carry high transmission risks, has stayed above the 30,000 mark for eight straight days. Yesterday, actives stood at 37,060 after 3,733 new Covid-19 infections in the country were recorded.

There were 416 cases being treated in intensive care units while 216 used respiratory assistance.

To date, the nationwide tally of the coronavirus is 440,677.
