Malaysia’s daily vaccination rate surpassed 200,000 level for first time on June 15 — JKJAV

KUALA LUMPUR (June 16): Malaysia surpassed the 200,000 level of doses administered for the first time, with 215,876 doses delivered to Malaysians yesterday (June 15), according to latest data from the Covid-19 Vaccine Supply Access Guarantee Special Committee (JKJAV).

A total of 160,226 individuals received their first dose, while the remaining 55,650 received their second jab yesterday.

The seven-day moving average of daily doses given stood at 159,141.

Cumulatively, 4.90 million Covid-19 doses have been administered thus far. 

1.47 million individuals have been fully vaccinated, while 1.97 million Malaysians have received only one jab.

Kuala Lumpur reported the highest number of individuals who had received their first dose at 597,419, followed by Selangor (515,132), Sarawak (390,281), Johor (322,644) and Sabah (267,001).

Meanwhile, Selangor recorded 187,443 individuals who had completed their second dose of vaccination, followed by Sarawak (168,471), Johor (142,868), Perak (139,612) and Kuala Lumpur (131,882). 

Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said yesterday that the government is confident of administering more than 300,000 doses of vaccination jabs per day in the coming months. 

It was also announced yesterday that approval had been given by Malaysia’s Drug Control Authority (DCA) for the usage of China's CanSino Biologics and the US' Johnson & Johnson (J&J) — both vaccines require only one dose to be effective.

The DCA also approved the usage of the Comirnaty Covid-19 vaccine produced by Pfizer-BioNTech for those aged 12 years old and above. 

National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme Coordinating Minister Khairy Jamaluddin also noted yesterday that Selangor will be able to achieve an 80% vaccination rate by September as the state plans to ramp up its daily vaccination rate.

In a tweet, the minister said the country's most populous state will be ramping up its daily vaccination rate to 135,000 per day in July and 165,000 per day in August.
