PETALING JAYA (June 18): Another exciting year beckons for budding architects and interior designers as they embark on an experiential journey with the Asia Young Designers Awards (AYDA 2021) that has returned for the 14th year running with the theme FORWARD: Amplifying Empathy Through Design.

AYDA 2021 is organised by Nippon Paint Malaysia in collaboration with property developer IJM Land Bhd.

This year’s theme aims to challenge the next generation of architects and interior designers to grow beyond designing one-dimensional spaces and to incorporate the evolving demands of consumers, while factoring in critical factors such as sustainability and environmental care.

Nippon Paint Malaysia group managing director Yaw Seng Heng (pictured) said it is now more than ever crucial that products and services are created with empathy to fulfill the ever-changing needs of consumers today.

“In our vision to nurture young designers to elevate the standards of the design community, we want to walk with the next generation to be the best versions of themselves and to inculcate empathy in each of their designs.

“We hope that through our diligently designed programme for AYDA 2021, young talents in the design industry will continue to challenge themselves and strive to produce designs that are not only aesthetically pleasing but to give birth to ideas that could potentially impact the future of humanity,” he said in a media statement yesterday.

AYDA was kickstarted by Nippon Paint Malaysia in 2008 with the objective of nurturing the next generation of young designers through cross-learning experience and networking with industry professionals, while providing them a platform to showcase their work and realise their fullest potential.

Registration to AYDA is now opened for submission until Oct 15, 2021.
