KUALA LUMPUR (June 19): Malaysia registered a decline in daily Covid-19 cases to 5,911, from 6,440 yesterday, bringing the total number of infections in the country to 691,115.

Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said Selangor reported the highest number of infections at 2,111 (compared with 2,095 yesterday), followed by Negeri Sembilan (770), Sarawak (569) and Johor (498).

Other states which recorded three-digit number of cases are Kuala Lumpur (483), Perak (245), Kelantan (223), Kedah (204), Sabah (201), Labuan (185), Penang (167) and Melaka (134).

Dr Noor Hisham said 72 Covid-19-related deaths were reported today, raising total fatalities in the country to 4,348.

A total of 23 deaths took place in Selangor, 15 in Kuala Lumpur, seven in Negeri Sembilan, six in Pahang, five each in Johor and Sarawak, three in Labuan, two each in Penang and Kelantan, and one each in Sabah, Perak, Melaka and Kedah.

Daily recoveries continued to outpace new infections at 6,918, bringing the tally of recoveries so far to 622,244.

This helped to further bring down active cases to 64,523, from 65,602 yesterday, said Dr Noor Hisham.

The number of patients in intensive care units declined to 886 today, of whom 441 needed ventilators to breathe.

Separately, the Health Ministry also reported 24 new clusters today, including 12 workplace clusters and seven community clusters, while the remaining clusters are linked to a high-risk group and a detention centre.

To date, 2,604 clusters have been reported in the country, of which 1,780 have been declared ended, leaving 824 active clusters.
