KUALA LUMPUR (June 20): Malaysia recorded 5,293 new Covid-19 cases today, a decline from yesterday's 5,911, bringing the total reported positive cases in the country to 696,408.

Selangor remained as the state with the most daily infections at 1,680, followed by Negeri Sembilan (693), Sarawak (661), Johor (627) and Kuala Lumpur (379), said Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

The other states that recorded three-digit cases were Perak (205), Melaka (183), Kedah (170), Kelantan (167), Sabah (163), Labuan (156), Penang (114), he said in a statement.

Meanwhile, 60 deaths were reported in the 24 hours as of noon today, bringing total fatalities in the country to 4,408.

Daily  recoveries totalled 5,941, raising the total number of discharged patients to 628,185 and giving a recovery rate of 90.2%.

Dr Noor Hisham said there are currently 63,815 active cases, of whom 880 patients are being treated in intensive care units, including 454 on ventilators.

Meanwhile, the Health Ministry detected 19 new clusters today, including 11 from workplaces and five involving the community, while the rest were detention centre-linked clusters and high-risk clusters.

To date, the ministry has detected 2,623 clusters, of which 834 remain active.
