JAKARTA (June 21): Indonesia government has appointed the country’s developers’ association Real Estate Indonesia (REI) to join hands in developing the new capital city in East Kalimantan, reported Jakarta Globe.

According to the report, REI has formed a task force to discuss the master plan of the new capital city with the authority to identify which parts of the projects are open for private companies.

“National Development Planning Minister Suharso Monoarfa has appointed REI to participate in supporting the development of the new capital," REI chairman Paulus Totok Lusida said in a statement on June 19, after a breakfast meeting between the minister and REI's executive board members in Bali.

He also noted that REI will be included in the special authority body for the development of the new capital city, which is poised to replace Jakarta.

"We hope that REI representatives will sit as ex officio in that authority," Totok said.

According to the Jakarta Globe’s report, the minister had assigned one of his special staff, Chairil Abdini, to liaise with REI, while REI proposed Samuel Stephanus Huang, the association's treasurer, to be in charge of attracting local investors.

Meanwhile, Rusmin Lawin, REI's deputy chairman for foreign relations, would be in-charge of attracting potential foreign investors to the project. Rusmin holds key positions in various business organization and association locally and internationally. Currently he is founder and chairman of Indonesia Proptech Association and FIABCI-Indonesia Vice-President.
