AstraZeneca dosing interval cut from 12 to nine weeks — Khairy

KUALA LUMPUR (July 1): The Covid-19 Vaccine Supply Access Guarantee Special Committee (JKJAV) has agreed to shorten the dosing interval for the AstraZeneca vaccine to nine weeks from 12 weeks.

Announcing this on his official Twitter page today, National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme Coordinating Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said those who have received their first dose of the vaccine will be notified of their second appointment soon.

Malaysia started administrating the AstraZeneca vaccine in early May under an opt-in basis in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur, involving a total of 268,600 doses.

Meanwhile, in another series of tweets, Khairy expressed Malaysia’s appreciation to the Japanese government for the donation of two million doses of AstraZeneca vaccine.

“Malaysia will also receive 586,700 doses of direct AstraZeneca purchase tonight (July 1) from the AstraZeneca facility in Thailand,” he added.

The ministry had also previously announced that the nation will be receiving one million doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine from the United States on Friday (July 2).

Meanwhile, JKJAV announced today that 258,773 Covid-19 vaccine doses were administered throughout the nation yesterday (June 30), bringing the total doses administered to 8.08 million.

This is the second-highest number of daily doses administered, surpassed only by 268,604 jabs recorded on June 24.
