KUALA LUMPUR (July 8): The co-founder and managing director of KIP Group and KIP REIT Datuk Chew Lak Seong passed away on June 25, 2021.

He co-founded KIP Group of Companies and became the managing director in 1997. Under his leadership, KIP Group has delivered numerous property development projects, including successfully reviving an abandoned project in Sri Utara, Kuala Lumpur into KIPark Sri Utara, a mixed development consisting of residences (Taman Seri Utara), offices (Menara KIP) and hotel (KIP Hotel), with a combined gross development value of more than RM500 million.

The 65-year-old chieftain is the father of KIP REIT director Alex Chew Kheng Kai.

Commenting on his demise, KIP Group of Companies CEO Valerie Ong told EdgeProp.my that Lak Seong was a man of integrity, diligence and always put the company first. 

“Our KIP family will strive to continue the legacy in which he had worked so hard to build and he will be dearly missed,” she said.

Lak Seong had extensive experience in property development and investment, hospitality, retail design and development, project management and corporate management. He began his career in 1980 as a project manager for MBF Property Services Sdn Bhd in Penang. In 1988, he joined Rawang Industrials & Property Sdn Bhd as general manager of property development. 

He was also the general manager of property development for Tanco Properties Sdn Bhd from 1990 to 1993, where he oversaw a 200-acre mixed development of retail and residential properties.

Subsequently, he was managing director of property development for Meda Group of Companies until 1997, where he was instrumental towards the completion of Summit Square,  Selayang, Selangor; Summit Parade, Batu Pahat, Johor; and Plaza Bukit Mertajam, Penang.
