Malaysia administered 299,593 doses of Covid-19 vaccine on July 20, lowest in nine days

KUALA LUMPUR (July 21): Malaysia administered 299,593 doses of the Covid-19 vaccine yesterday (July 20), down 29.5% from 424,936 the day before.

This was the lowest number of daily doses recorded in nine days after over 300,000 to 400,000 shots were delivered previously. The latest seven-day moving average of daily doses fell to 393,097 from 410,947 on Monday.

Of the latest 299,593 doses, 204,064 were first shots, while the remaining 95,529 were second jabs, according to latest tweets by the Covid-19 Vaccine Supply Access Guarantee Special Committee (JKJAV), citing data from the Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF).

Among the states and federal territories, Selangor delivered the highest daily number of first doses yesterday at 82,892, followed by Kuala Lumpur (43,857) and Johor (25,731).

For second doses, Sarawak administered the most daily shots at 34,270, followed by Kuala Lumpur (25,636) and Selangor (24,552).

With the latest shots administered, the cumulative number of Covid-19 vaccine doses delivered nationwide rose to 15.07 million from 14.77 million previously.

To date, a total of 4.14 million individuals in the Klang Valley had received at least the first dose, of whom 1.33 million individuals had received two doses of the vaccine.

This means that 15.8% of the population in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya are now fully inoculated.

Malaysia reported 12,366 new Covid-19 cases yesterday, up 1,394 or 12.7% from 10,972 the day before. The latest cases — eight being imported infections — were detected from the screening of 124,519 individuals in the past 24 hours, representing a 9.9% positivity rate.

Active cases breached the 130,000 level for the first time at 133,703 — up from 128,997 the day before — as recoveries continued to come in lower than new cases at 7,567.

The country’s cumulative confirmed Covid-19 infections increased further to 939,899.
