KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 5): The authorities will not use daily Covid-19 infection numbers “as a metric” to relax curbs for the various states once they enter the second phase of the National Recovery Plan (NRP), Bloomberg reported  Finance Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz (pictured) saying today.

He said that the government will instead use Covid-19 hospitalisation rate as one of the three indicators to decide if states can move to the third and the final phase of the NRP. The other two indicators are vaccination rate and ICU occupancy.

“Once 40% of adults have been vaccinated, the number of new cases becomes less relevant because most cases show little to no symptoms, hence reducing the burden on public infrastructure,” Tengku Zafrul explained in a video posted on his Facebook.
