KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 22): A total of 469,690 Covid-19 doses were administered yesterday (Aug 21), a decline from 483,855 the previous day, according to official data.

Cumulatively, 30.84 million Covid-19 vaccine doses had been administered across the nation thus far, figures provided by the Special Committee for Ensuring Access to Covid-19 Vaccine Supply (JKJAV) showed.

The data, sourced from the Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force, showed that 18.12 million people or 55.5% of the country’s population have received at least one dose of the vaccine.

A total of 12.72 million people or 38.9% of the population have meanwhile been fully inoculated.

In the Klang Valley (comprising Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya), 5.01 million people or 59.5% of its population had received their two-dose vaccination as of yesterday, while 6.64 million people or 78.9% have been jabbed at least once.

In terms of adult population, 77.4% of the people aged above 18 years in the country had received at least one dose as of yesterday, while 54.3% are fully vaccinated.

In the Klang Valley, 81.3% of the adult population had been fully vaccinated as of yesterday.

This is below the 90.6% adult population vaccination rate for Labuan and 84.1% for Sarawak, but above that of the other states.

Johor came on top as the state with the highest number of first doses administered yesterday at 33,187, followed by Sabah (18,224) and Kuala Lumpur (17,482).

For second doses, Selangor led the country with 96,884 jabs, followed by Kuala Lumpur (55,706) and Sabah (34,134).

Meanwhile, Malaysia’s new Covid-19 infections fell to 22,262 yesterday, from 23,564 the previous day, raising total cases to date to 1.54 million, the Health Ministry reported.

Selangor continued to post the highest number of new cases in a day with 7,011, followed by Sabah (2,651) and Sarawak (1,964).

Other states that reported four-digit daily infections were Kedah (1,880), Johor (1,558), Penang (1,459), Kuala Lumpur (1,220) and Kelantan (1,039).
