KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 30) As much as 536.7 hectares of the Kuala Langat North Forest Reserve (KLNFR) will be developed after the Selangor government approved to degazette the land, reported Malay Mail today.

In today’s Selangor legislative assembly in Shah Alam, State Tourism, Environment, Green Technology and Orang Asli Affairs Committee chairman Hee Loy Sian said the decision for the degazettement was made under Section 12 of the National Forestry Act 1984, in the state executive council meeting last May 5 and validated in another meeting on May 19.

According to him, the land will be given to a private company, Gabungan Indah Sdn Bhd, for a mixed-commercial development.

The total KLNFR area to be degazetted is less than 45% from the original total proposed which was about 991.90 hectares.

“This is because the state government has taken into consideration protests and biodiversity interest, as well as Orang Asli's needs; therefore only a portion of KLNFR is degazetted,” he added.

Meanwhile, he also noted that a total of 581.48 hectares of land has been approved as permanent forest reserve (HSK) replacement in the state.

“An area about 581.48 hectares has been approved as permanent forest reserve replacement involving PT4182 in Sungai Panjang sub-district, in Sabak Bernam district of about 308.62 hectares; Ampang Pechah, Buloh Telor sub-district, Hulu Selangor district an area of about 208.98 hectares and Bukit Broga, Semenyih sub-district, Hulu Langat district about 63.88 hectares as replacement forest,” he said.
