Malaysia’s Covid-19 vaccine doses administered fell to 321,349 on Sept 3 from 369,280 a day earlier

KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 4): Malaysia's daily number of administered Covid-19 vaccine doses fell to 321,349 yesterday (Sept 3) from 369,280 the day before, according to the latest updates on Facebook today by the country's Special Committee for Ensuring Access to Covid-19 Vaccine Supply (JKJAV), citing data from the Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF).

The CITF said the 321,349 doses comprised 143,831 first shots and 177,518 second jabs for recipients.

Cumulatively, about 35.84 million doses had been administered across the nation as of yesterday, the CITF added. Around 20.26 million people or 62% of Malaysia's population had received at least one jab, including 15.61 million individuals or 47.8% of the population who were fully innoculated.

According to the CITF, the fully-vaccinated category represents the number of people who have received the second dose of the two-dose vaccination or one dose of the single-shot CanSino Covid-19 vaccine.

Within the Klang Valley, which comprises Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Selangor, the CITF said that collectively, 82.1% of the population had received at least one jab as of yesterday, including 69.5% who were fully vaccinated.

Meanwhile, Johor reported the highest daily number of first doses administered yesterday with 28,646 shots, followed by Perak with 25,417 jabs.

As for second doses, Johor also topped the list with a daily figure of 40,372 shots, followed by Selangor with 34,969 jabs.

Malaysia's Covid-19 vaccination scheme started on Feb 24 this year, with then prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin taking the first jab.

Based on the government's target of having 80% of the country's population of about 33 million people fully vaccinated to achieve herd immunity, the nation will need to have about 26 million individuals fully inoculated against the pandemic.
