KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 7): Nearly half or 49.3% of Malaysia’s total population had been fully vaccinated against the Covid-19 pandemic as of yesterday (Sept 6) as the country's daily number of administered vaccine doses rose to 313,751 from 289,958 a day earlier, according to the latest updates on Facebook today by the country's Special Committee for Ensuring Access to Covid-19 Vaccine Supply (JKJAV), citing data from the Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF).

According to the CITF, the fully vaccinated category represents the number of people who have received the second jab of the two-dose vaccination or one dose of the single-shot CanSino Covid-19 vaccine.

The CITF said that cumulatively, about 36.75 million vaccine doses had been administered across the nation as of yesterday, involving about 20.68 million individuals or 63.3% of Malaysia’s population who had received at least one shot, including around 16.11 million people or 49.3% of the population who were fully inoculated.

Yesterday (Sept 6), Malaysia's daily number of administered Covid-19 vaccine doses at 313,751 had involved 132,640 persons who received their first dose and 181,111 people who had received their completed doses, the CITF said.

Malaysia's Covid-19 vaccination scheme started on Feb 24 this year, with then prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin taking the first jab.

Based on the government's target of having 80% of the country's population of about 33 million people fully vaccinated to achieve herd immunity, the nation will need to have about 26 million individuals fully inoculated against the pandemic.
