KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 10): The High Court yesterday granted an interim stay of its earlier ruling that Rantai Wawasan Sdn Bhd shares are considered to be part of the estate of the late cabinet minister Tan Sri Jamaludin Jarjis.

Rantai Wawasan, which was acquired by Jamaludin in 2012, owns independent power utility NUR Power in Kulim, Kedah among several assets.

The interim stay was granted by Justice Datuk Seri Mohd Firuz Jaffril pending a decision on the stay application filed by Jamaludin's children Ikhwan Hafiz Jamaludin and Nur Anis Jamaludin in relation to the suit against them by their grandmother, Aminah Abdullah.

A source familiar with the case said Justice Firuz heard submissions on the stay application yesterday afternoon from the siblings' lawyers S Suhendran and Frank Wong and Aminah's lawyer Pawancheek Merican.

The court then decided to grant an interim stay pending its decision on the application on Sept 20.

Ikhwan Hafiz is the managing director of Nur Power, while Nur Anis is a director of the firm.

They filed a notice of appeal on Sept 6 to appeal the High Court's Aug 13 decision at the Court of Appeal. The siblings also filed a certificate of urgency for the stay application to be heard yesterday.

In the Aug 13 decision, Justice Firuz ruled that the shares of Rantai Wawasan were considered to be part of Jamaludin's estate while two other companies — Alpine Motion Sdn Bhd and Ivory Insights Sdn Bhd — sought by Aminah were not part of the estate.

Besides this main suit, Aminah had filed two other suits against the two grandchildren, their lawyer, Jamaludin's lawyer and a commissioner of oaths seeking to be an administrator of the estate.

Nur Anis and Ikhwan Hafiz were appointed joint administrators of Jamaludin's estate in 2017, which Aminah is now challenging, alleging fraud in the estate's administration.

The siblings, in their defence, claimed that Aminah, at 86 who is also illiterate, could not manage the estate and claimed further that their grandmother was backed by Jamaludin's half-brother Najeb Ali, who has undue influence on her, for his own benefit.

The siblings and the lawyers, one of whom is now a High Court judicial commissioner, are considering to strike out this suit on the grounds of multiplicity of proceedings following the decision in the suit heard by Justice Firuz.

Besides this, Aminah has also filed a third suit seeking a portion of the RM21 million left by his son in various bank accounts kept by the grandchildren.
