Decline in Covid-19 infections continues with 15,669 new cases on Sept 14, lowest in 50 days — but total cases top two million

KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 14): Malaysia's new Covid-19 cases continued the downward trend for the fourth straight day to 15,669 today, the lowest in 50 days.

The cumulative confirmed infections due to the virus increased further to 2.01 million, according to Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah in a statement.

Among the new infections, 98.2% or 15,386 cases are from Categories 1 and 2 while 283 cases or 1.8% are in Categories 3, 4 and 5.

Selangor emerged as the worst-hit State again with the highest number of new infections today at 2,632, up from yesterday's 1,947.

Sarawak's cases saw a 43.7% drop to 1,983 versus 3,522 the day before. This is the lowest number recorded in the State in 20 days after reporting more than 2,000 cases previously.

As for other States and Federal Territories, Johor reported 1,974 cases, followed by Sabah (1,784), Penang (1,651), Kelantan (1,406), Kedah (1,207), Perak (856), Pahang (763), Terengganu (483), Kuala Lumpur (411), Melaka (329), Negeri Sembilan (143), Perlis (30), Putrajaya (14) and Labuan (three).

Daily recoveries came in at 18,053 — the second straight week of outpacing daily cases — bringing the tally of Covid-19 recoveries so far to 1.76 million or 87.7% of overall infections.

A total of 954 patients who are confirmed positive with Covid-19 are being treated in intensive care units, including 432 who need ventilators to breathe.

Meanwhile, other data such as active cases and daily deaths will be updated from midnight on the Covid Now website.

Another 29 clusters were reported by the Health Ministry today.

These comprised 14 workplace clusters, 12 community clusters, and three high-risk group clusters.

To date, 5,182 clusters have been reported in the country, including 3,734 that have been declared ended.
